Chained Beasts Beginner Guide: Your First Arena Run

Chained Beasts - Gameplay — Game Mojo

What should a new player learn first?

The central challenge in Chained Beasts is movement while chained to other gladiators. Featherweight Games describes a 1–4 player co-op roguelike where a rushed teammate can pull the group out of position, while a coordinated crew can use the chain to trip enemies. If you are new, learn how your group moves before concentrating on a particular skill or weapon.

The full release launched on October 15, 2026. Its campaign spans Carthage, Germania, and Rome, with nine battles across three acts. The developer lists eight beasts plus variants, more than 70 skills, more than 70 afflictions, over 40 items, and ten difficulty levels. Those figures describe the breadth of the game; they do not imply that everything is available at the start of a first run.

Step 1: Choose solo play or a co-op crew

You can enter alone or play with up to three friends. The developer lists online co-op with cross-play and local couch co-op; individual storefront features can vary, so check your platform before arranging a session. Our co-op guide covers the modes, while the local co-op guide focuses on sharing a screen.

If you play with others, agree on a simple movement call before the fight starts. Point out which side of the arena you plan to approach and warn the crew before changing direction. This is practical advice based on the game’s chain mechanic, rather than a claim about a required in-game command or control setting.

Step 2: Read the arena before committing

The official game description names throwable urns, spikes, snake pits, and weapons you can throw. These give you options beyond attacking the nearest enemy head-on. Before engaging, identify obstacles that could trap a chained group and hazards that could also be turned against opponents.

Throwing a weapon can create an opening, but it can also leave you without that weapon in hand. Consider where you will move afterward and how you will defend yourself. The weapons guide explains the confirmed combat options in more detail.

Step 3: Treat the chain as part of combat

In co-op, the chain connects your positioning to your teammates’ positioning. Moving around a pillar from different sides can tangle the group; moving together can help control space and trip an enemy. Ask your crew to call out throws, charges, and sudden turns. This keeps a useful maneuver from becoming a surprise for everyone else.

The same principle matters during boss encounters. A heavily armed arena opponent is a poor time for teammates to scatter in different directions. Use the boss preparation guide to separate confirmed campaign details from unverified attack patterns.

Step 4: Manage damage between battles

Runs can leave a gladiator with physical or mental afflictions. The developer gives examples such as a limp, a lost eye, and hallucinations. Potions may ease pain but can introduce side effects, while the Surgeon is another treatment path mentioned in official material. The sources do not establish a single best treatment for every condition.

Check your current injuries before deciding whether to spend resources on healing, equipment, or a new skill. The afflictions guide covers the known trade-offs and avoids inventing an effect for every one of the 70-plus afflictions.

A first-run checklist

  1. Choose solo play or confirm your group’s co-op mode and platform.
  2. Agree on a movement direction and warn teammates before sudden turns.
  3. Look for usable objects, weapons, and hazards when entering each arena.
  4. Plan how to recover after throwing a weapon.
  5. Review injuries and available upgrades between battles.
  6. Adapt your next choice to the current run instead of assuming one fixed build always works.

Once these basics feel familiar, continue with the broader gameplay guide and browse the playable beast information. The official Featherweight Games page and Steam listing are the source for the game’s confirmed features.
